My Apologies. Hope is on the Horizon.
Let me first apologize. As you may (or may not) have noticed, The Monday Morning Coach Motivationals have come to a screeching halt. Without getting too deep into it, I think I've been experiencing SAD (seasonal affective disorder, self-diagnosed). It's hard motivating others when you haven't any for yourself. But that's not where I want to focus today's motivational.
This season is about hope, belief, and new beginnings, and I'm reminded of that through the warm embrace of family, friends, and neighbors. Sometimes, the darker parts of our lives and what we go through feel inexplicably inescapable and arresting. But we mustn't lose hope. We are not the first people in human history to experience emotional pain and grief, but we have the tools to identify these feelings and not be identified by them.
I heard this explained well recently by hip-hop artist and musical flutist Andre 3000. "So it's like, just live and take it day by day, man," 3000 told NPR. "Everything won't be great. The only thing I can say: Learn how to ride the roller coaster. The best thing you can do is learn how to ride the roller coaster with your hands up."
So, whatever or wherever your feelings are today, please find hope and faith in someone or something today. If you're in a great place, continue holding on to whoever or whatever is keeping you grounded. If you're struggling to experience joy and happiness, struggling to smile, struggling to feel anything, don't lose hope that brighter days are ahead.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
